At Wonderful Way CIC, we believe that celebrating history, heritage, culture and achievement can help create stronger, more connected and more inclusive communities.
Our Black History Month celebrations bring people together to recognise the contributions and achievements of Black communities, celebrate culture and heritage, support local businesses and community organisations, and inspire children and young people to see the possibilities for their own futures.
Over the years, Wonderful Way CIC has brought communities together through Black History Month celebrations that combine culture, creativity, education, community connection, enterprise and recognition.
Our Black History Month Journey
Our celebrations have continued to grow, creating opportunities for people from different backgrounds and generations to come together, share experiences and celebrate the richness of our communities.
Each celebration has been shaped around our commitment to:

Previous Celebrations
We are proud to have delivered two previous Black History Month celebrations, bringing together community members, families, young people, businesses, performers and local organisations.

County Durham Black History Month Celebration 2026
Honouring Our Heritage, Heroes and Futures
Our 2026 celebration marks the continuation of this journey.
Wonderful Way CIC is bringing the community together on Saturday 24th October 2026, from 2pm to 6pm at Redhills Durham Miners Hall, for an afternoon of celebration, entertainment, recognition and community connection.
The theme for 2026 is:
Honouring Our Heritage, Heroes and Futures
The theme reflects three important elements of our celebration:
Heritage
Recognising the histories, cultures, traditions and stories that have shaped our communities.
Heroes
Celebrating individuals, businesses, organisations and community contributors who are making a positive difference.
Futures
Inspiring and empowering the next generation to recognise their potential and contribute to the communities around them.
What to Expect in 2026
The celebration will include a range of activities and experiences for children, young people, families and the wider community, including:
- Live music and performances
- Dance and cultural performances
- Spoken word and creative expression
- Fashion and cultural showcases
- Awards and recognition
- Community and local business exhibition
- Children's entertainment and family activities
- Opportunities to meet local businesses and community organisations
- Food, treats and opportunities to connect
Community & Local Business Exhibition
The celebration will also provide a platform for local businesses, social enterprises and community organisations to showcase their work.
The exhibition will take place from 2pm to 3pm, with Wonderful Way CIC providing exhibitors with a table, chair and exhibition space.
We want to create opportunities for local organisations to connect with residents, showcase their services, build relationships and celebrate the contribution they make to County Durham.
Celebrating Our Young People
Young people are an important part of our Black History Month celebrations.
We want children and young people to experience positive representation, discover inspiring stories and see examples of what is possible when they are encouraged to develop their talents, confidence and aspirations.
Through performance, creativity, participation and recognition, we aim to create an environment where young people feel encouraged to contribute and shape the future.
Awards & Recognition
Our celebrations also provide an opportunity to recognise people who are making a positive contribution to their communities.
Through Awards and Recognition, we celebrate achievement, community contribution, enterprise, creativity and positive impact.
We believe that recognition matters — not only to celebrate those who are already making a difference, but also to inspire others to get involved.
